I was going to buy a police scanner a few days ago and learned that in most places, police and fire are using truncated systems (encrypted). Not allowed to own anything that will decrypt. So, I'd only be able to hear dispatchers. Disappointing, and I hadn't been aware of those changes.

I like my signal sticks but the acorn looking connector is Sooooo Damn Ugly , Cheap looking, and long past due for a better design and finish. Good enough for my Baofeng’s but wouldn’t be seen on my Kenwood. Just my picky old geezer opinion

you know, alot people joke that MFJ stands for "mighty fine junk". well, that "mighty fine junk" has gotten me thru many years of amateur radio contacts and if it wasn't for MFJ, i probably wouldn't have gotten my over 900 confirmed contacts in less than 5 years. I am not an everyday active ham and love their products and their sister products have been there for me in many years as well. So to those who want to belittle MFJ, you know where you can go and stick it to be honest. My dad was also a fan of MFJ for almost 40 years and he passed away recently and used their products as well as i have. The one thing I love about them is the no matter what warranty (not like i have had to use it as i repaired my defects after calling them and getting some help in locating the issue) if it is broke you can fix it. So any naysayers just think they are better becaue they can afford to waste money on expensive stuff that did the same job. Bet I have saved thousands with MFJ compared to them. I don't need to flwnt money to make my self a better person. I am an Amateur Radio Operator and that is all that matters. MFJ will be missed by me and my family but I do wish they could sell to a person/company that would keep the same legacy moving forward. I do understand that business is hurting but comparing China to them is like comparing a Porsche to a Dautson. Not even in the same ballpark. 73 to all and have fun! and to add my dad loved MFJ for life until he passed May 3,2024. Thank you Josh for passing this on as I do not have time to learn about all the ham news as i live a busy life and sad to hear about BobHeil. Another man I admired. 73, ad0am

I rebuilt my sailboat to a live-aboard bugout survival pod that can stay out at sea self-sufficient for up to 10 years if needed. In a SHTF scenario would a HAM radio be relevant on a sailboat, would it work? And is there an antenna that can be hoisted in the mast for greater reach?

After getting my new KW TH-D75, I laugh at Baofengs. I have two that were given to me and I consider them poor performing toys. Both on transmit and receive too. And I've tested them. My Kenwood is a new Corvette and those two Baofengs I have are like low price Hyundais or Kias. That's a very fair analogy!! I also have a Radioddity GD-77 I picked up for $10.00 at a second-hand store that's such a pain if you want to set it up for DMR. Something like a 'codeplug' or some nonsense like that you have to learn how to do with a steep learning curve. Not worth it, so I gave up. I learned how to use my Kenwood the first day on all three ham bands and the DSTAR was not hard, neither was the APRS. Although I have no use for APRS, personally. I didn't really need the 28 page pdf much to learn the Kenwood. My Yaesu VX-6R is harder to use than my Kenwood but it's a nice old tech radio, very handy. I'd say my Kenwood was worth the high price, just like a new Corvette would be.

I own four different Yaesu handhelds all with different key sequences to do the same thing. Talk about confusing.

Let's say my friend and I have 10 nodes between us and we want to chat. Are we SOL? My messages will only hop 3 nodes then fizzle out and my friend, 7 more nodes away, never gets the message?

I would be terrified to carry a $700 HT.

I've been a ham for a long time and still watched all the way through. I LOVE the way you explain things so that anyone can understand, especially those new to the hobby. I just found out that the Yaesu 4X has the same problem as the Baofeng that you can only charge the battery when it is fitted on the radio in the charging cradle!

Lets combine AI, software defined radio and repeater value with mesh networking. The concepts will translate into server meshing and securing the internet. This is huge for the world and will bring back value to the internet and communication systems in the future. It will free up radio and internet bands using repeater value there by increasing bandwidth across all magnetic spectrums.

FYI: Prolific driver for MacOS M3 proc didn't work from said site. I did find the driver on the Apple Apps store. That worked for finding my device.
